Dream Thievesby Ed Reck
'If it was that easy, everyone would be doing it.' 'You can't start a business without a lot of money.' 'You need to find a steady job with benefits.'
"Have you ever heard any of those lines, or something like them? Those are the Dream Thieves trying to make off with your dreams. Who are the Dream Thieves you ask? Why, they are people who attack you when you become motivated to become something more than what you are. They tear down every reason you have to want to change, to progress, to move onto a higher plane. They are the people you work with, the person in the check out line in the grocery store, even some of the closest people you know like your own friends and family who try to talk you out of success.
It's not because they don't like you or because they don't love you. It sometimes is because they love you that they don't want to see you become successful. Not that they wouldn't like to see you succeed but because they don't want to see you get hurt if you fail. It's not easy to be successful, and failure is always tugging at your coattails. The people who love you the most can be the greatest Dream Thieves because they don't understand the relationship of success and failure.
There are other Dream Thieves who would steal your dreams out of their own selfish pity because they lack confidence in themselves and they're afraid you'll really make something of yourself. They'll tell you, you can't make it on your own and my even laugh at you for trying. They're really just lazy and don't want to leave their comfort zone because that would cause them to have to take their lives off of auto pilot and they'd actually have to think for a living. Therefore they become jealous and cynical out of fear that you will show them up. Even though 'showing them up', or hurting them, or anyone else for that matter is the farthest thing from your mind.
Then there are the worst Dream Thieves of all. These people are the ones who think they're better than you. I had a close friend who told me that I couldn't start my own business because I was too stupid. I thought to myself, 'What kind of friend would say something like that'? He would tell my other friends that I didn't have what it takes and I would never make anything of myself. Friends like him I didn't need, and you don't either. Avoid these people like the plague. It doesn't matter what you do, they will always put you down to make themselves feel better. I've gone on to build two successful businesses and all he can say is, I got lucky.
Don't let the Dream Thieves rob you of your dreams. You subscribed to this newsletter because you are unique. You have a spark in you that most people don't have. Take control of your future and grab an opportunity out of this newsletter and run with it. You can make it work. It may take some time, but you can do it. Just don't listen to the Dream Thieves."
"Never, ever, let anyone steal your dreams."
